I want to wear my favourite jeans again… parade with confidence in a swimsuit or in a figure hugging T-shirt… the most common desires we hear from you – our clients, who are interested in abdominoplasty and liposuction. We understand that you surely have number of questions before making an informed decision. We do hope these top 5 Q&A will save you time when collecting information.

When is abdominoplasty and/or liposuction appropriate?

We have a solution for you, even if you are overweight. The doctor will carefully examine how your belly currently looks like – how and where is the fat stored. Subsequently, we can help you with a weight loss, with the support of a nutrition therapist, or using a gastric balloon or undergoing a surgical bariatric procedure. The main difference between the procedures is that liposuction can be used to remove pockets / rolls of fat. Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) is appropriate after successful weight loss. Plastic surgeons sometimes needs to combine both procedures. Liposuction of localised fat pockets and reduction of excess skin can create flat stomach in a proportion with your waist and hips.

Will I have long, visible scars?

A long thin scar is actually a good result. The surgeon can model your hips and form waist more precisely than when the incision is short. Don’t worry. Good plastic surgeon is also an artist/sculptor – a skilled surgeon has a good eye for a new, naturally looking navel and placing/hiding scars under your underwear line.

What about my diastasis? Will abdominoplasty sort this out?

Definitely yes – an experienced surgeon will also suture the parted abdominal muscles – diastasis (quite common condition after childbirth). Diastasis is not a cosmetic issue only, but can also bear unpleasant physical side effects. Due to general muscle instability some experience back pain, even a hernia can develop in extreme cases.

Personal consultation with the plastic surgeon. Don’t forget to ask…

It’s time for a personal consultation with your surgeon. You will be calmer and definitely more satisfied with the results when you know what to expect. Your personal consultation is a perfect time to address questions such as: the resulting distance between the navel and scar, the shape of the navel, the shape and size of the incision, recovery time etc. Is actually a combined procedure appropriate for you? What your belly will look like when lying down, sitting, and bending forward? And what about stretch marks? Will they be less visible? Ask the surgeon, ask us…

What about returning to normal life?

Gradually, step by step. As with any convalescence process, returning to work and driving is very individual. E.g. if you do sedentary work behind the computer, you can start working again in about 3 days after the procedure. However, you should wear the compression garments up to 2 months after the procedure. Other physical activities and sports should be avoided for approximately 1-2 months.
